FAQs

Why is Save1 focused on child hunger?

While there are many worthy causes, both domestic and international, child hunger has reached epidemic proportions.  It is something that we can no longer ignore.  Six million children die from malnutrition every year.  Let’s break that down into easy-to-grasp facts:

17,000 children a day
700 every hour
12 every minute
1 every 5 seconds

By the time you finish reading this sentence, one more child will have died from malnutrition. Save1 is committed to making an impact on these statistics by providing meals to hungry children, with a strong emphasis on those who are severely malnourished.

Who can participate in this program?

Anyone, anywhere, anytime can contribute to helping the suffering children around the globe by participating in this unique coupon site which we call “couponing for a cause.”

How much money does it cost to feed a child in a developing part of the world?

Anywhere from 24 cents to 50 cents per meal, depending on a variety of factors: where the child is located, the cost of transportation to take the meal to the child, and whether or not the child is malnourished.  Severely malnourished and fragile children require advanced nutritional formulas that cost more.

How does the Save1 Feed Hungry Children Program work?

Every time you make a purchase with an online coupon or special offer from Save1, we are paid a small commission from the company that issued the coupon.

If the commission Save1 earns is less than the cost of providing a meal, will you still feed a child?

Yes.  If the commission is less than the cost to feed a child, Save1 will make up the deficit and buy a meal for a hungry child.

How do you feed the children?

We make monthly donations to credible Feeding Partners who deliver nutritious meals to children in need.

How do you select your Feeding Partners?

Save1 works hard to ensure that the Feeding Partners we select are credible, charitable organizations built on a foundation of integrity.  They must also have a history of efficiently delivering meals to hungry and malnourished children around the globe.  As part of this process, we ask each Feeding Partner applicant to provide us with specific information and to meet certain guidelines.  The information is then reviewed and verified by our Director of Charitable Giving and the founders of Save1, who must approve each application.

Our goal is to be as transparent as possible in our operations. If you would like to learn more about the selection process, please review our Feeding Partner Selection Criteria.

Where are the children located?

In the United States and throughout the world.

How can I be sure that you are actually feeding children from redeemed coupons?

Each month Save1 will make a monetary donation to one or more of our Feeding Partners, who in turn will provide us with an acknowledgment letter confirming the number of meals purchased with our donation. We will post these acknowledgments on our Meals Certification page. We select only those organizations where we have full confidence in their ability to use our donations to fulfill their child-feeding commitments.

Please be sure to check our website’s Meals Counter (in the upper right-hand corner of every page) to see how your purchases are saving lives. We will update the Meals Counter every time we confirm that a sale has been generated from one of our coupons or special offers.

We encourage you to read our Financial Integrity page so you will know what you can count on from Save1.

What percentage of the money donated to the Feeding Partners actually goes to feeding a child?

One of our requirements specifies that Feeding Partners spend no more than 20 percent of their charitable donations on administrative and fundraising expenses. For more information, see the Feeding Partner Selection Criteria.

Do you give an equal amount to each one of your Feeding Partners?

No. The decision as to how many meals to provide through each Feeding Partner is made on a monthly basis and is largely determined by where the need is the greatest.

How frequently do you donate to your Feeding Partners?

With 17,000 children dying every day from malnutrition, our objective is to pay our Feeding Partners as quickly as we get paid from our advertisers.  Initially we will be paying monthly, but our goal is to pay weekly.

If a store does not have any coupons or special offers or if their offers don’t work for what I am purchasing, can I make a purchase at that store that results in a child being fed?

Yes!  Anytime you click a store’s link from any of the 5000+ stores listed on Save1, we will provide a meal to a starving child.  There is a link to each store at the top of each store’s page on Save1.  Click this or any link on the page.  When you do, a new window will open with the store’s website.  Simply proceed to make your purchase and we will feed a child.

Are there other ways that I can help Save1 feed hungry children?

Yes! We have a special Limited Time Only offer.

Rather than spending money on traditional and often ineffective marketing, Save1 would rather use that money to feed hungry children. You can become a part of our marketing program.

We will provide one meal each time -

This means you can provide three meals right now! All meals provided through this promotion will be reported on our website’s Meals Counter within 24 hours.

We have designated Feeding America, the leading domestic hunger organization, as our Feeding Partner for this promotion.

If you really want to join us in our cause, please read Help Us Spread the Word for more ideas on how we can team up to fight child hunger.

Are you a for-profit or a not-for-profit organization?

Save1 is a for-profit company with a social mission. If our business does well, a lot of children’s lives will be saved.  Our goal is to provide more than one million meals every month. With your help, together we can make a real difference in the fight against child hunger and malnutrition.
